National Events 2010 – March Current Affairs

March 3: Pravin Mahajan (50) convicted of the murder of his brother and BJP leader Pramod Mahajan dies of brain haemorrhage at a hospital in Thane.
The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi, launches the Kalaignar Housing Scheme at a function in Tiruchi.

March 4: Sixtythree people, including 37 children and 26 women are killed and 74 injured during a stampede at a religious gathering at an ashram at Mangarh in Uttar Pradesh’s Pratapgarh district.
United Liberation Front of Asom Vice-Chairman Pradip Gogoi is freed on bail from Guwahati Central Jail temporarily ending his 12-year detention.

March 5: The Karnataka Chief Minister B. S. Yeddyurappa presents a Rs. 9,708.46 crore deficit budget for the year 2010-11.
Kerala Finance Minister T. M. Isaac presents a “red and green budget” for 2010-11.

March 8: The 108th Constitution Amendment Bill (Women’s Reservation Bill) is tabled in the Rajya Sabha amid bedlam.
Air India creates history by handing charge to an all-women crew on the Mumbai-New York flight and control of the cockpit of 22 domestic and international flights on International Women’s Day.

March 9: The Rajya Sabha votes 191-1 to amend the Constitution to reserve one-third of seats in Parliament and the State Assemblies for women. The RJD withdraws support to the government.

March 12: India and Russia sign agreements in the defence and strategic spheres, in the presence of Prime Ministers Manmohan Singh and Vladimir Putin, in New Delhi.

March 13: The Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, inaugurates the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly Secretariat Complex on the Omandurar Government Estate in Chennai.

March 15: The Government decides against introducing in the Lok Sabha the Civil Liability for Nuclear Damage Bill, 2010.

March 19: The creation of a department for the differently abled, Anna University of Technology for Madurai and a medical college for Tiruvannamalai highlights of the Tamil Nadu budget for 2010-11.
Veteran cinematographer V.K. Murthy is presented the Dada Saheb Phalke Lifetime Achievement Award at the 55th National Film Awards 2008 in New Delhi.

March 23: A devastating fire rages through Stephen Court, a colonial building in Kolkata’s Park Street, leaving 33 dead and 20 injured.
Kanu Sanyal (78), one of the architects of the naxal movement is found dead at his residence in the Naxalbari area of West Bengal’s Darjeeling district.

March 25: The Supreme Court lifts stay on quota for Muslims in Andhra Pradesh.

March 27: Lifer for three for murdering National Highways Authority of India engineer Satyendra Dubey.

March 28: Rukshana and her brother Aijaz are awarded the Sarvotam Jeevan Raksha Padak and the Utam Jeevan Raksha Pathak for killing a LeT Commander Abu Usma on September 27, 2009 in Jammu .

March 29: Sensex surges to a two-year high of 17711.35, the highest closing level since February 29, 2008.

March 31: President Pratibha Patil presents the Padma Awards to a galaxy of personalities.
General Vijay Kumar Singh takes charges as the Chief of the Army Staff at function in New Delhi.
The year long 26/11 trial concludes.
